Project @ The Mint,
Henry Place, Dublin 1

Friday, 26 February 1999

In February 1999 the Crash Ensemble had a week-long residency in project @ the mint, culminating in two sell-out concerts. Music by Irish composers Gerald Barry, Donnacha Dennehy and Michael Keaney was featured as well as a strong line-up of international composers including Zack Browning, Gérard Grisey, Giancinto Scelsi, Philip Glass and Steve Reich. The ensemble also hosted the first visit to Ireland of Indian-German composer Clarence Barlow (who was present for the Irish première of his tape piece Calcutta). The week culminated with a highly successful debate (provocatively titled 'Technology: the life support system for a dying art?'), chaired by Martin Adams and featuring composers Raymond Deane, Roger Doyle, Gerald Barry, Donnacha Dennehy and Clarence Barlow.
