Music after Beckett

Samuel Beckett Theatre,
Trinity College, Dublin 2

Thursday, 6 April 2006

Crash Ensemble designed and performed a programme to mark the influence Samuel Beckett has had on composers, both contemporary to the man himself and since. Pieces included John Cage’s seminal 4’33”, Morton Feldman’s challenging Why Patterns?, Glass’  String Quartet No.2, and Music in Similar Motion, with video by Simon Doyle and the world premiere of Adriaanz Structure XIII, one work of a series of fifteen written for various ensembles and groups worldwide, two of which were written for Crash Ensemble. This event provided Crash Ensemble with a unique opportunity to expose a largely (specialist) literary audience to fundamentally challenging concepts in music.
