Roddy O'Keefe
Trombone
Roddy O'Keeffe began his musical studies in 1989 at the College of Music. In 1995 he became a full-time student at the Conservatory of Music and Drama and successfully completed an honours degree in music performance in June 1999. In the 1999 Feis Ceoil he won both the Senior Trombone and Guinness Brass Bursary competitions.
Roddy has played with the National Symphony Orchestra, the RTE Concert Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. Cecilia, Opera Theatre Company, the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland and the Hibernian Chamber Orchestra, performing in Ireland, USA, Denmark, Scotland and Germany. His interest in contemporary music has led to membership of the Crash Ensemble, with whom he has toured to Sweden, Germany, Canada and the USA Roddy is also a keen chamber musician, and plays with the Athem Brass Quintet. On the jazz front Roddy has played with the Essential Big Band and the Night in Havana Orchestra.
In the summer of 2000, Roddy travelled to Australia and participated in the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney Olympics as a member of the Millenium Marching Band.
