Musica Nova Helsinki | Red Poppy

For Red Poppy, Crash Ensemble presents work by co-founders and composers of the innovative Bang on a Can music collective; David LangMichael Gordon and Julia Wolfe. All of the pieces performed at the event were written for Crash. Gordon’s Cake, Lang’s super chill and Wolfe’s A Wild Furze were all composed in honour of Crash Ensemble’s 20th anniversary in 2017. Gordon's Dry was commissioned by the Kilkenny Arts festival for the group. Crash's recording of Lang's Forced March can be heard on his recent album release Writing on Water

Musica Nova Helsinki | Hard flip

At the first concert, Crash Ensemble will perform the premiere of Grey Area by resident composer Sam Perkin, who is one of the hottest names in contemporary Irish music. Perkin – a skateboarder and contemporary composer – combines, in a surprising way, orchestral music and a nighttime skateboarding video in which the audience is taken on a hypnotic journey through the streets of Dublin and Cork. The concert also features the premiere of Resonance Orbit by Finnish-Canadian Matthew Whittallcommission by Musica Nova for Crash (read more about Matthew's writing process here), as well as Glamour Sleeper by ensemble founder, Donnacha Dennehy.
